Within both Easy Mail and Easy Mail Plus, designing and printing envelopes or labels is accomplished in much the same way. The essential difference between the two programs is in the way in which addresses are handled.
We invite you to consider other items on this page which seek to clarify other differences between these two programs. We want to do all we can to help you select the one that best suits your needs.
Easy Mail is the parent product of Easy Mail Plus. And we have thousands of satisfied customers who find it more than meets all of their correspondence and mailing needs. We invite you to join this group. While it is true that Easy Mail Plus is more powerful, given its database capabilities and related functions such as sorting and filtering to select names, more power is a waste if it is not needed, and it may in fact get in the way and even become a burden. Consider printing an envelope. Just one envelope. Or a couple of labels. It is quicker and easier to open an Address Book, click on a name or two, then click a print button, than it is to first load a database of 50,000 names to be searched for the one needed. If you have large mailing lists, or need sorting and filtering capability, there really is no choice; you need the full power of database. But if you have small lists, even if you have many of them, database may mean unneeded power that actually complicates your mailing task, making it a more difficult and time consuming chore. Easy Mail is the simpler of the two programs because it is less complex, and it usually takes fewer steps to complete a given task.
Easy Mail and Easy Mail Plus are different programs that meet different needs. It is not appropriate to say one is better than the other. They differ only in function, not in quality or performance. Here is a brief comparison of the two programs.
Easy Mail features free-form addressing that has proved extremely popular with our customers. Since addresses in lists have the same format used in correspondence or on envelopes and labels, there is never a doubt as to what will be printed; you can see any address at a glance. And it's a snap to copy and paste addresses to and from your lists. Here is an example of how an address might be printed or recorded in an Address Book.
Ms. Mary L. Jones While Easy Mail Plus includes this method of handling addresses, its power lies in its database capabilities. When using database, elements in the example above are entered into separate fields. That is, "Ms." is entered into the prefix field, "Mary" into the first name field, "L." into the initial field, "Jones" into the last name field, and so forth. Pasting addresses into such lists does not work because each field must be entered separately.
Ease of use is our primary design consideration at Home Plan Software. Be assured both Easy Mail and Easy Mail Plus are easy to use. Which program you need depends entirely upon the task you want to accomplish. If you have small lists, say in the 100 - 1000 range, and do not need sorting or filtering, Easy Mail will meet your needs, and do so in the easiest way possible. Should your situation change, and you find database is required, you can purchase Easy Mail Plus at half-price, and move your Address Books directly to the new program. But if you already have large lists or expect them to grow quickly, or need to sort and filter addresses, there is no realistic choice but database. By its very nature, entry to, and maintenance of, a database is more work and takes more time. The payoff for the extra effort is the powerful options available to select sets of names by sorting and filtering.
